Nikolas Schenke

After a short but successful detour through studying as a multimedia designer at the SAE Institute in Hamburg (2002), I completely turned to my real passion: working with horses. From 2002 to 2004 I worked at Newsells Park Stud in England.

During this time, I also expanded my knowledge at the British Racing School and in English National Stud in Newmarket. Immediately after training as a horse owner at the Fährhof stud farm (2004 to 2006), I went to the USA and worked for two years at the Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky, which is known as a thoroughbred stud beyond the borders of America. There I acquired detailed knowledge both in the area of (thoroughbred) breeding and in preparing and carrying out auctions.

I returned to Germany in 2008 and took over the management and administration of Gestüt Bernried on behalf of owner Dietrich von Bötticher until the beginning of 2015. Among other things, I was responsible for the entire area of horse breeding and keeping.

At the beginning of 2015, I founded Gestüt Lünzen in Schneverdingen together with Thommy.

In recent years, I have worked with young horses and breeding stallions and focused in particular on the so-called “problem horses.” This is a challenge that fulfills me and that I would like to experience anew every day as a stud manager here in Lünzen. After training as a horse owner (2002 to 2004), I moved to the USA, where I worked at Monty Roberts' Flag Is Up Farm in California from 2006 to the end of 2009 and was trained as a “Monty Roberts Certified Instructor”. One year later, Monty Roberts named me one of the world's first Master Instructors. It's an extremely great honor for me.

This makes me the only person in Germany with this qualification. Through my training in the Join-Up® method, I was able to acquire special skills in handling young horses and problem horses. At Flag Is Up Farm, I both taught at the Monty Roberts International Learning Center (MRILC) and led the training of racehorses. I also organized and managed Monty Roberts' demonstrations and trade fair appearances in the USA, Austria and Germany. My knowledge and experience are used by trainers and horse owners. I am also happy to share my knowledge at lectures and in horsemanship courses.

After my license to practice as a vet at Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich in 2004, my professional path first took me to the USA. As an assistant vet at the renowned Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky, I was able to gain valuable practical experience and deepen my knowledge of equine medicine.

I then worked as a research assistant at the Equine Clinic of the University of Zurich before returning to Germany and continuing my work as an assistant vet at the Aschheim Equine Clinic near Munich.

This was followed by another formative station in Ireland, where I worked at Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital in The Curragh, Kildare — a center with an international reputation in the field of sport horse medicine. After returning to Germany, I worked at the Ottersberg Veterinary Practice before setting up my own practice in Schneverdingen in March 2013 and have worked as an owner ever since.

My areas of expertise today include orthopedics and sports medicine, gynecology with stud care and foal medicine, and general equine medicine.
